چکیده

2014 We consider the adsorption of polymers on colloidal particles 2014 spheres and cylinders 2014 whose dimensions are comparable to solution polymer radii of gyration. Adsorption occurs if the « sticking energy » per monomer exceeds a certain threshold. For a colloidal particle, this threshold increases by an amount inversely proportional to its radius. In addition, the repulsive interactions between monomers limit the number which may be attached to a given particle. Thus, there is a characteristic degree of polymerization, N*, proportional to the surface area of the particle. For N N *, one chain may completely clothe a given particle; for N > N*, a polymer chain is decorated by the colloidal particles like beads on a necklace. J. Interaction of Colloidal Particles with Macromolecules: The RISM Integral Equation Theory

A microscopic theory of the mixtures of polymer chains and colloidal particles immersed in a common solvent is developed on the basis of the RIS~I integral equation technique. The obtained general equations enable the calculation of the correlation functions and thermodynamic characteristics of the system at an arbitrary ratio of the components. The the, ory is used for a comprehensive study of...

Photocatalytic Oxidation of Water by Silica-Supported Tris(4,4′-dialkyl-2,2′-bipyridyl)ruthenium Polymeric Sensitizers and Colloidal Iridium Oxide

A cationic polymer containing tris(4,4′-dialkyl-2,2′-bipyridyl)ruthenium groups linked by aliphatic spacers was studied as a photosensitizer for the catalytic oxidation of water in the presence of colloidal IrO2. The polymer-colloidal IrO2 system photocatalytically reduced persulfate, a sacrificial electron acceptor, and oxidized water to O2 and H+ in solutions that were buffered at pH 6 by Na2...

Contact-line pinning controls how quickly colloidal particles equilibrate with liquid interfaces.

Previous experiments have shown that spherical colloidal particles relax to equilibrium slowly after they adsorb to a liquid-liquid interface, despite the large interfacial energy gradient driving the adsorption. The slow relaxation has been explained in terms of transient pinning and depinning of the contact line on the surface of the particles. However, the nature of the pinning sites has not...

Polyelectrolyte adsorption

The problem of charged polymer chains (polyelectrolytes) as they adsorb on a planar surface is addressed theoretically. We review the basic mechanisms and theory underlying polyelectrolyte adsorption on a single surface in two situations: adsorption of a single charged chain, and adsorption from a bulk solution in θ solvent conditions. The behavior of flexible and semi-rigid chains is discussed...

Application of Magnetic Polymer Particles Modified with β–Cyclodextrin for Adsorption of Bovine Serum Albumin

Magnetic polymer particles which were modified by vinyl groups and subjected topolymerization by vinyl β-Cyclodextrin derivative, has been used as adsorbent for sorption andrelease of bovine serum albumin and the equilibrium and kinetics of the adsorption process werestudied. The absorbability and releasing of this protein through the new polymer has beenmeasured by ultraviolet-visible spectros...
